There's no trick with the title here -- stray dogs start prowling around Maruko's neighborhood, and they end up setting their sights on her. But who is going to be the one who ends up saving her from getting a bit butt?

My days of fansubbing Chie are at an end -- Discotek has picked up the series to release in the west. This is incredibly bittersweet for me, with much more bitterness than sweetness at the current moment, but I expect that will level out as more time passes.
I can't really describe how excited I was to start doing the show when I watched the movie for the first time last year and started reading the manga. I swore that I wouldn't do any announcements until I had rough drafts for the first ten episodes banked up, just to prove to myself that this wasn't some random obsession and that I could see it through. I flew through those ten episodes quickly. Each character's voice was as clear as could be in my head -- it really felt like this project was meant to be. I'd often put on later episodes, thrilled that I would be giving voice to these characters and situations in English, and trying to puzzle out the best way for me to do so.
And now, in the blink of an eye, it's over.
It's weird, this -- the unknown grief of an unknown fansubber, bereft that they can no longer give voice to characters they had started to get to know quite well, but should really have expected to say good-bye to at any given moment. I'm probably at the bargaining stage myself, saying, "Oh, you can just do the movie! Oh, you can work on the second series!", but knowing full well that attempting to put any eggs in those baskets is just begging for a repeat of the current situation.
Of the many indignities life can pile up on a person, this one is incredibly minor in the grand scheme of things, and I'm happy that many more people are going to get to experience the show and see what I like about it so much. For now, though, it's a just weird kind of sadness.
