“tesla sold more new cars than BMW in 2022”: relatively unsurprising, they remain the easiest EV to purchase, have big Brand Recognition there, and have done a decent job ramping production

“tesla is a luxury automaker”: this is where i draw the line. have you ever been in a tesla? they are not nice cars. at all. they have cheap feeling interiors, poor build quality, bizarrely noisy ride despite being fucking electric cars, etc. my 2021 mazda 6 is more comfortable and Nicer feeling than the top trim model S i was in 5 years ago, and that was BEFORE they added all the stupid touch screen bullshit. can’t imagine how much worse it all is now.

Teslas are such a damn coin flip to me. on the one hand as a gearhead, i recognize that electric motors and their ability to deliver power linearly and immediately is a significant advantage over internal combustion engines. the application i'd find this most advantageous is in drifting, since the instant torque delivery means you always have exactly as much power as you want, when you want it. compare that to ICE drift cars that frequently use turbochargers, which don't achieve full boost - and thus full power - at the immediate stomp of the gas pedal.

on the other hand, also as a gearhead, this manufacturer is responsible for some of the most sloppily assembled vehicles i have ever seen in my life. i've seen smaller, straighter panel gaps on a fucking drift missile.

for clarity's sake, this is what we call a drift missile.

a seriously damaged car drifting on a race track

and the thing is, i wish i was being hyperbolic. but repeatedly i have seen Teslas with seriously fucked panel gaps that I would honestly expect on a car that has been repaired after an accident that ended up affecting the chassis/frame of the vehicle. and these Teslas, with their crooked "i was in an accident" panel gaps, are fresh from the factory and available on the dealership floor for its first owner to purchase! how is that even allowed?!

and how in the fucking world is Tesla continuously considered as a luxury manufacturer when it can't even assemble a car to the same standards of quality as a fucking Pinto. you know, the car that had a tendency to fucking explode in rear-end fender benders

Inchrested to see if anyone's going to use ford's electric crate motor in a drift build (maybe they already have? Idk)
