My take so far is that I was right:

  • Windows has gotten so annoying that it actually feels nice for even computer haters like myself to switch back to Linux
  • Xubuntu feels refreshingly simple

Linux is annoying for computer reasons and in some cases where I can't figure something out, Computer Sympathizer reasons (forum people who justify things working in a stupid way)

Windows is annoying for computer reasons as well as Computer Sympathizer reasons, BUT ALSO Capitalism reasons (constantly bothering you to change your behaviors in a way that will make someone somewhere an incremental amount more money, ads and dark patterns everywhere, features changed or killed at random for profit reasons), AND Capitalism Sympathizer reasons ('Umm, Actually? It's reasonable that it bothers you about OneDrive even after you're already paying for it').

It used to be that I felt like I couldn't do my creative work on linux at all, but now that I prefer Figma to adobe stuff for 75% of my graphic design work (gonna try Lunacy also tho) and Darktable exists (I actually really don't like Darktable but I'm sure I could get good results out of it) it feels posible

Idk, it probably really depends on what you need to do and what software you depend on. For me, realizing that most of my non-work computer usage is just web browsing now meant that I could make my old laptop useful again by putting a ligher OS on it... Because I know I can be ok with not knowing how to do much on my laptop beyond browsing for a while as I re-learn linux stuff. However, I don't think I'm going to be ready to fully switch all my creative workflows for a long time, so I'm keeping Windows on my big powerful desktop. I might try dual boot sometime...
