If this does break you should still be able to do light-mode-only stuff using blend-mode: multiply?
i doubt that's impossible but i fruitlessly spent like half an hour last night trying to make that work. i'm pretty sure that the problem is that it only blends with the "content of the element's parent and the element's background" (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/mix-blend-mode) and post content isn't a direct child of the background or whatever. annoying!
the active moving when you change the setting is an absolute perfect touch
