better than just a clear sky, in my opinion
Certainly, everyone else at this meetup had tons of equipment and planing, but they all came home with the same photograph. I didn't plan anything, didn't even take a tripod with me (although in hindsight, I should have). This was shot handheld and with my NIKKOR 35-70mm which is manual focus only. I'm stoked this turned out so well.

Yeah, I really hadn't realized that either. This lens also has pretty funky optics which unintentionally made the effect more pronounced. Almost like a cross-screen filter.

On the one hand, I'd like ton congratulate you on a Very Cool photograph.
On the other, I worry that the photograph is Too Very Cool, and that by some process of retroactive cinematic equivalence, you've captured in amber the precise moment that the world began to fall into darkness.
Arguably a diamond ring shot is even more time sensitive than the totality and it certainly looks fantastic
Yeah, now that I've had time to soak it in, I love this photo more than any other I shot. The sun, moon, earth, cloud, tree, and camera all aligned for an infinitely brief moment, it makes me feel staggering small, but also significant. It's hard to put into words.
This is one of my favorite photos of the eclipse. There's just so much texture! I never would have thought to do that. It's amazing!
That's high prase considering how many photos have been shot! I didn't have a plan or any particular idea going into this, that's usually where my brain works best. I've been practicing landscape photography which may have influenced the use of foreground, midground, and background, something you just don't see with photos of the sky. Photography is 95% luck most of the time, it's just up to how you capture it.
