Last night's random hyperfixation (and also Fuzzy Skin Modifier Example):
Low profile 49mm threaded hood with various versions intended for Pentax 50's [A, F, and FA] as well as the GRIIIx and Pentax DA 40mm f/2.8 Limited
Versions I made:
-
Version 1 which is sized for either the DA 40mm f/2.8 Limited OR the slower f/1.7 Pentax 50's [A, F, FA]
I actually started this whole little project specifically because I've been using (a third party version of) the default hood for the DA 40 Limited on my GRIIIx for low profile shading and to keep rain off the front when when I use a filter, and it turns out the size of the opening on that hood is basically exactly the right size to also work on the F/1.7 pentax 50s without cutting off the bokeh, so I wanted a second one to just leave on that lens -
but for some reason that specific hood is like impossible to find on ebay now? Even third party knockoffs? So I made my own -
Version 2 (pictured) which is sized for the f/1.4 50's [A, F, and FA]
This version just has a Bigger Hole so it doesn't cut off the bokeh on the faster 50's. Still offers decent shading -
Version 3 with a much tighter rectangle shaped opening
This one cuts off the bokeh wide open on any of these, but it's intended specifically for using the 50's at f/2.8 or tighter, the point at which they all start becoming most sharp (way tighter rectangular opening = maximum shade and protection) -
Version 1L, 2L, and 3L which are just really thin, low profile versions of the others
Still offers some shading and protection, especially
