got: Metapen A11 ($20 knockoff apple pencil which has a programmable actual real button)

It's. as you would expect, Ok. But the things that are bad about it are not what you might expect. I do think it's pressure sensitivity is slightly worse at the light pressure end than the real apple pencil*, but otherwise it's nearly identical feel wise, and as someone who barely uses pressure it's totally fine. Tilt sensitivity definitely works but I definitely find that annoying most of the time**

*huge edit: I might have messed up gain calibration and now pressure doesn't work and I'm like Questioning whether it actually had pressure in the first place or if i was just imagining it because of how heavy handed tilt is in procreate

Unfortunately what's actually annoying is: The button :/

For one thing, it's really small and positioned too high for me (would have been better if they made it longer). Since their "higher end" magnetically charging pencil doesn't have a side button, I literally think they just put a button on it because this needed a power button, and then added shortcuts as an afterthought.

So the actual sad part is how artificially limited the button mapping seems...
It seems like it just sends key commands (i'm guessing this because the undo command works in text fields lol) which is perfect imo
However the options in the App for mapping it are just a series of known commands for specific apps. You can't set your own.
So if you like Procreate, Notability, Goodnotes, or... Painter (legit no idea what app this is) this might be better for you?

The key commands for goodnotes eraser and switch to pen seem to be the same as CSP, so that config sort of works for me - except that switch to pen switches to the pen tool, so you have to do it a second time to switch to the pencil brush. So that mapping almost works. Which means that ultimately this thing I'm trying because I still can't reliably do the double tap gesture on actual Apple pencil... requires me to do a double tap gesture on a tiny and shallow button twice to switch back to the pencil. It makes switching to the eraser way easier though.

I cannot believe the pro apple pencil doesn't just have an eraser. Seeing how the button position being slightly wrong for me made this slightly harder to use, I think I get why apple's so committed to reinventing the wheel and not having real buttons, but I swear that double tap gestures works like maybe 25% of the time for me. But this knockoff pencil probably isn't really the solution.

**digression moved to the end: I don't like tilt most of the time because apps that use it seem to have gone crazy with the default behaviors like "we have this ability let's do something really visible with it" e.g. the technical pencil brush in procreate. a real fine point technical pencil does not become a wide soft brush to that extent when you tilt it... come on. but i don't like how procreate's pencil brushes look anyway (they look more like i'm masking on a png texture than drawing with a pencil to me) so that's whatever for me. and its all customizable if you really want
