This whole day I've been here like TRYING to get up, feeling lethargic and like I have no energy and all my joints hurt... realizing that this maybe isn't just me being a lazy piece of shit (at least not in this moment right now) is ironically making me feel better. That said I do still have to get up and I don't really have any food here other than bread

this has just been every day of the last three years for me haha, so extremely relatable chost

first was undiagnosed diabetes (turns out when you just stop being able to process glucose right, you get tired)

then right after that was this recent thyroid thing (when your entire metabolism is basically stuck in first gear, you're also tired a lot)

so, yeah, likewise excited to finally start doing things other than sleeping again!

OH NO NOT YOU TOO !! hope you feel better soon, the citrus should help SO fast if it is actually scurvy !

[heads up / apologies for infodumping but we read a lot about scurvy and vitamin C a few months ago when we realized what was going on with us lol]

doctors here aren't taught to look for or identify scurvy since it's mostly seen with longterm deprivation, but we learned that it's more common in people with limited diets for medical / autism reasons, poverty / food insecurity, executive dysfunction and/or disability that makes it hard to remember to eat or to prepare food regularly, GI illnesses effecting digestion, meds that interfere with digestion and absorption,, which is like,, exactly a venn diagram of us lmao and almost everyone we know that's had it recently and makes sense in hindsight ;;

looks like you've identified it earlier than us and the good news is that hypersupplumenting vitamin C can't really hurt you and is easy and cheap, and most of the fatigue and mental / emotional weirdness, mouth pain / itching, and otherwise untraceable mystery extremity pain from scurvy will clear up almost immediately if you've got any of that going on. further progression symptoms and resulting complications will take longer or also need additional intervention like some of ours have, but all of the small-but-adds-up early parts making you miserable and tired should respond surprisingly fast.

oh also fun fact ! vitamin C is broken down by heat so even if you're getting cooked or warm meals with vegetables that naturally have a lot of it so you think you're getting enough, there isn't really much after heating. and your body just dumps any excess vitamin C unlike fat-soluble vitamins that get stored, so you need a very regular intake to top off. raw fruit and vegetables and fruit juice are more reliable sources along with taking supplements. hell,, even fruit gummies and candies with vitamin C (sometimes listed as ascorbic acid in ingredients) are something to keep around when fresh stuff isn't a Thing for whatever reason.
