This is the law library at the University of Zurich. Architecture is one of my absolute favorite subjects, but rarely do I actually go out of my way to photograph it. Architectural photography is hard and generally best left to professionals shooting Sinar large format cameras who went to school to do exactly that. I've seen so many iconic photos of iconic buildings in books that I could never dream of being in the same league as.
So, naturally, I took this with a point and shoot. It's a beautiful building, and probably difficult to find a genuinely bad angle to shoot it at. But I'm still really happy with how this one came out. We were unsure that we were even supposed to be in here not being students - it was also unbelievably quiet inside, and you can't tell from the ground floor, but each of those rings around the perimeter is actually packed completely full of desks with people sitting at them. I snuck in a quick point and shoot frame just in hopes of grabbing something decent. My friend unleashed the mirror slap of a Pentax 6x7 on his way out and quickly hustled out the door.
There isn't as much beautiful architecture in Seattle as there is in Europe, of course. But I think there's plenty to practice on. I think it's worth making an effort to photograph buildings more. I don't have any shortage of film. I think it would be really fun to actually be good at this someday.
