I think (emphasis on that) this is how currency works on stock markets. It's definitely not how currency works with regards to consumer products.

It’s how we pay for gas. Some commodities, until you settle. Lotta wholesalers do that.

Why Apple would do it, though, is beyond me. Maybe somebody switched libs for representing currency and forgot a flag.

Prices aren’t usually listed this way, because it’s much easier to conceptualize “10,000 for $10” or “1000/$1” than “0.001¢/ea.” But if you want to sell singles of something that doesn’t come in penny units, it is what it is.
