I just realized that all those “Where do you see yourself in 10 years?” questions I answered coming up to my graduation from high school have finally been definitively proven wrong. I very much did not see myself anywhere close to what my life is now a decade ago. All of it because there were things about myself I had yet to figure out (queer identities and various diagnoses).
I was going to be a wealthy, successful software developer. Instead, I graduated college with high honors and immediately became too sick to continue my internship that would have become a software dev career paying $80k a year as a starting salary. And two years later became too sick to work at all.
You don’t have to have a concrete plan for your life, and you definitely don’t need to panic if you miss one of your planned goals or deadlines; life always throws curveballs when you least expect them, anyways. Sticking perfectly to one plan for your whole life isn’t feasible even if you could do everything right the first try, because you can’t control everything else in the world.
