I think it would feel less like a cash-grab if they’d made it clear in the first movie that the adults have more emotions running around and not just having the same 5 running their brains too. And then also with how the emotions can combine, like. They realize that memories can be happy and sad together because when they mix in that particular way it becomes nostalgia. Anxiety is just Sadness and Fear, why is she a separate entity? Now they’re showing the little brain maintenance guys coming in and changing the inside of the control center, and like. Her parents’ control centers didn’t look that much different from hers? Just themed more specifically. The panel wasn’t much bigger and definitely not more complicated. It’s just soooo obvious that the original writers weren’t expecting a sequel to exist! It doesn’t fit with the world-building of the first movie, and I wouldn’t be able to watch them back-to-back without my suspension of disbelief failing.
i dint even think about that. its absolutely unintentional, but it implies that everithing that the movie introduces is just teenager stuff thet goes away when you grow up
and that is a really stupid message
Oh, see, I couldn’t even come up with a way to make it fit at all but you’re absolutely right, the implication is that these more complex emotions maybe go away with adulthood. Can’t say for sure, because they may cut to inside the parents heads again and show off the new emotions and try to act like they’ve always been there.
FUCK, and I just remembered that the plot they’ve shown so far is the new emotions trying to lock the old emotions out of the control room and managing Riley themselves, but if the parents have the original five in control, like. Was their puberty not as complicated on an internal level? Or are they saying that puberty is that intense and identity-perilous for everyone?
And like. I get that the actual message is going to be “puberty feels like you’re a whole new person and the whole world is changing and nothing makes sense anymore, but it’s okay cause everyone feels that way, you’re not alone and you’ll learn to handle how complicated being older is” but I still want it to like. Make sense on each side (inside and outside) with the established world and mechanics.
