The internet is fundamentally just an idea, a set of protocols, implemented in the form of a billion computers. It's just as much ours as it is theirs.

fond memories of when the only crashes i got back in the superior chat client, mirc, were when i was running a version vulnerable to a ctcp crash exploit

fwankie
@fwankie

I've had it crash because a game crashed. wasn't streaming and didn't have the overlay enabled or anything, it just crashed out of sympathy or something

if something else runs out of memory, discord crashes with it! very fun!

xkeeper
@xkeeper

poor discord, thought of another app and died

VeraLycaon
@VeraLycaon

discord is truly a workhorse among desktop applications in that pretty much anything will make it run off a cliff and die horrendously

gull
@gull

sometimes discord just decides to shit itself and close-and-reopen for NO reason! literally nothing else happens. streaming can be in the middle of running just fine, everything's going a-ok in every single window i have open and discord will just throw its hands up in the air, declare 'no thank you' and die

Amazing how quickly Discord went from "quirky upstart small client that took advantage of Skype's failures to become a chat client people not only wanted to use but wanted to support the growth thereof" to "too far gone with venture capitalists in their ears that they keep making mistake after mistake the same way MSN and Skype did on their way to their graves, seem unable or unwilling to understand why, and seriously needs a competitor to either give them a swift kick in the ass or face being buried right next to Skype and MSN"

This extra sucks for users because while a competitor would likely prolong this fate, it would only make communication even more annoying in the meantime.

"can you add me to the discord call?"
"no sorry we are on Matrix" (or whatever the next thing is called)

Having to switch between 15 chat/vc services is deeply annoying, and we are finally at a point where Discord is becoming popular enough to be a central communication system. Inevitably, this means it's time for it to be enshittified, which is already well underway.

idk man, I wish the EU would buy out Discord and turn it into a public service or something, I don't see another way out of this.

generally speaking, I really like Jetbrains Rider. I am also a pretty big fan of .NET (yes I know it's written by microsoft, but its FOSS so Log Off). I like LINQ. in many situations it increases code readability and provides convenient shorthand. I am especially fond of the aggregate function.

However,,,

Rider has this feature where it will relentlessly suggest replacing highly readable, perfectly effective loops with LINQ one-liners that would make god cry. I would like to present you with a few of my favorite examples.
