Successfully quashed a proposed road traffic order in 2020 against the installation of an electric charging point outside my house. I now own an electric car but the council refuses to install one because of a prior quashing order actioned by me. (self.LegalAdviceUK)

Undeleted from Reddit from user "TeslaModelUK":

Back in 2020, I successfully quashed a proposed road traffic order that would have allowed the installation of an electric charging point - I argued that the local authority didn't meet the requirement of providing sufficient notice in the local gazette and that a reduction in double yellow lines would cause risk to pedestrians and the consultation process was procedurally unfair

Fast forward to today, and I am now an owner of an electric car. However, I've hit a roadblock as the council is now refusing to install the charging point due to the quashing order I had initiated. They are refusing to my road on the waiting list, despite demand from the local residents.

I'd like there to be an electric charging point - my house isn't suitable for off-street electric charging. Can I get the council to install one?

And the follow up comment which was also undeleted:

at the time i didn't want the resident parking spot that was directly outside my house to be changed - only resident cars with EVs would be allowed meaning I would have to have had parked 3 metres further away from my house - so I looked up the legislation and found the two faults the council failed on to do - consult fairly and consider health and safety risk to pedestrians - but now that i have an electric car, I kind of need a charging point-the only place I can charge my car is in the high street and at work.

(Seems to behave weirdly on multi-monitor mixed-refresh-rate setups. Also, if you have Reduced Motion enabled, you'll need to turn it off for the animation to work)

To read it, look for the lowest number which isn’t turning and which appears in dark text (ie isn’t flickering on alternate frames).

Original version, supports 30/48/50/60/90/120/144hz:

Warning: flickering imagery, open at your discretion. A zoetrope-like disc covered with numbers carefully arranged in patterns. As it spins, the viewer's refresh rate remains visually stable amidst a flurry of other dancing numbers.

Even more ridiculous harder-to-read version, supports all of the above plus 75hz:

Warning: flickering imagery, open at your discretion. A zoetrope-like disc covered with numbers carefully arranged in patterns. As it spins, the viewer's refresh rate remains visually stable amidst a flurry of other dancing numbers.

Reflecting on it, the reason I think the OceanGate situation has become such a flashpoint for anger is because it's such a perfect microcosm of the problem with everything right now. Decisions are not made based on safety, reasonable caution, or concern for human life. Every decision is instead made from a default assumption of 'what if the bad thing just DIDN'T happen?' We are given pie-in-the-sky promises and sizzle reels and an endless PR hype-cycle for every new innovation and inevitably it fails to work, harms people, and then is maybe barely apologized for before the next bad idea comes down the pike. OceanGate's underengineered, undercooked, doomed submarine isn't merely a metaphor for the hubris of the wealthy, it is a scale model of the way the wealthy dictate our reality. All consequences can be ignored, all blowback can be forestalled, let the end-user eat the cost.

I am not angry because the submarine was badly-made. I am angry because I live in a vastly larger pressure vessel being managed and maintained by the exact same people.

EDIT: jesus tittyslapping christ. apparently this struck a nerve with a lot of people, so I'm just going to say that if you like the manner in which I put words to your lingering dread, consider giving me a donation. I'm very poor and this sumbitch of a post is on like every dang website now(usually unattributed) so I might as well get weed money out of it: https://ko-fi.com/popidol37544
