okay, so I'm a Python dev. Most of my stuff is pretty small, in enterprise-land, but there are a lot of things which are easier if you can keep track of things in a database, like monitoring ongoing jobs, precalculating data points for plotting which would be too slow to do in real time, etc.
We have our own database, and if I need a table for some reason I could whip up a CREATE TABLE statement in a few minutes.
Now, due to tHe PrOcESs, I have to submit the CREATE TABLE statement to three people for review, fill out a bunch of paperwork about why I need this table and how to roll back the change if it fails, wait two days, and log on while I'm cooking dinner to watch some guy in India run my script.
Also we got an email from the department head asking everybody to cut costs.
