I was using a little ARM SBC attached to my TV running Kodi to serve as an HTPC, but found its performance inconsistent when playing high-bitrate files off my NAS. So I wondered, what if I moved the HTPC to inside my NAS? I passed through some PCI cards with libvirt, did some performance tuning, and then hooked up a very long fiber optic HDMI cable to the GPU. It’s been working well as a general purpose Linux desktop system and I get no performance issues with Kodi anymore. Pretty happy with it, definitely beats having a loud PC right next to the TV. Fiber optics is crazyyyy broooo
