At some point I ripped the quartz off of an Ethernet card’s PCB (I stored it incredibly haphazardly — loose in a box full of other loose cards — so it’s not surprising) so today I’m going to solder it back on and pray it still works. I also found a mystery capacitor in the same box that doesn’t seem to have come off any of my spare cards, which means I might be running a GPU, HBA or Ethernet card in my server with a missing cap. Kinda scary! I’ll need to pull everything out and manually inspect things when I have a sec, which I’m not thrilled about.
