My wife brought home a bunch of nonalcoholic beers from work and that's when I found out that there appears to be a plethora of .5% IPAs and also that I think I might be a nonalcoholic beer person.

They're not bad. If you're in the mood for a beer and don't want the buzz. It's good as a lunch beverage on a hot day.
I'm generally always in the mood for a beer, but almost always there are a dozen really good reasons not to, many of them tied to alcohol.
My dad at one point, because of his Parkinson's medication, started drinking non-alcoholic beers.
I must admit that I was pretty embarassed to buy them at first but then ... let's say that I became a bit less stupid and I had muuuch more embarassing articles in the cart related to his health problems anyway.
Plus it seems these beers have been constantly growing their consumer base these past years, so I guess it's not really looked down upon or anything.
It's weird that nonalcoholic beer has been the butt of a joke most of my life, and now the answer to "Why would anyone drink nonalcoholic beer?" is "It still tastes good, you don't have to worry about a DUI, you can do it while smoking weed without getting sick and you don't feel like shit afterwards."
Some are okay, some are... not good.
To be honest I haven't found one that has proven to be anything mote than a curiosity.
In a world with advanced age and legal weed, my desire for and opportunities to drink to get drunk has shrunk to almost nothing. But I do miss a nice IPA at a meal, and since I'm driving 99.9% of the time, I would settle for a decent nonalcoholic one.
The vast majority of non alcoholic beers have alcohol in them at around that level. I've always took it to mean less "these beers don't have alcohol" and more "good luck being an alcoholic drinking these beers."
