I think a lot of people struggle with analyzing situations and choosing effective solutions because they get distracted by how they think things should be, rather than how they are. when I'm confronted with someone with supposedly leftist values proposing useless solutions or complaining about necessary accommodations, I usually find it helpful to ask if they're on that "should" bullshit again
