I think the mila jovovich resident evil movies embraced the spirit of resident evil in every possible way if I am completely honest. I think they knew exactly what they were doing and they were correct in doing it, in terms of being a video game series adaptation. the first movie is literally the kind of shlock that the first game was made after, and the sequels pulling in more and more characters and events from game-canon follows perfectly with the kind of self-referential escalation that the game series became bloated with. the pivot from tightly controlled tension to constant action? the setpieces requiring increasingly convoluted plot justifications? it's all there baby
