A thing that's wild about the decimation of games press is that it's become actively hard even to answer the basic question "which games have come out lately and which might I want to check out"
Like even the most basic, elementary enthusiast-press stuff is fucking gone. Go look at IGN's video game reviews feed, for example, and check out just how few actual new games they are even reviewing.
Googling this shit often just leads to SEO'd to hell and back articles from two years ago titled "The best new game releases to get your kids this holiday season!" from some SEO mills or USA Today dated to November 2022 that for some reason displays on an MSN news article instead of the actual website.
one of the big reasons I fell off Giant Bomb is they just stopped doing quick looks?? I’m sure there is a reason, good or bad, but it’s THE staple show format and I can’t see why they stopped.
im just glad I have a friend who plays lots of demos on steam and tells me what stuff looks good
this is happening with music reviews too, to a lesser extent
