Not saying anything that already hasn't been said about the show but, I did wanna say something about it.
I finished that probably first of probably more seasons to come, of Bocchi the Rock and looked some at the manga. I was apprehensive of watching this show as it was airing and even a little after because, I was under the impression it was just something people were watching because "Pink girl is funny and is an introvert" and that's kind of all to it. Glad I was wrong.
To put it simply, without sounding like a hit piece, this is what I wish K-On's first season of anime was in 2009. That came out near the end of my junior year of high school, I enjoyed it a lot, gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling, even if I wasn't a musician. As the years went on with it I did realize it was very much a comfort show, which isn't a bad thing, it had it's drama too but, it was a very much a thing you watch and feel good about it.
Finally watching the rest of the show today made me go dang, I really wish I had specifically this speak to me in high school. More than just a "Follow your dreams" thing but, a "Follow your dreams, it may take awhile to get there though and it might not turn out the way you want." Not to make it sound like this show is dire or nihilistic towards futures for people, heck in a lot of ways it's more uplifting than K-On was to see Hitori get what she wants or succeed immediately but, learn from those mistakes.
She's such a realistically written loaner character I can't help but applaud them for it. You want to see her succeed but, she is also hilariously selfish sometimes about it. Wants to be famous but, obviously folds when she has to deal with a crowd. Not to mention how well done Nijika, Ryo, Kita and all the supporting characters are but, I don't want to rant a ton about it.
I will say they the reason why clips were shared so much online, I get it now. The animation team really outdid themselves. Just anything they could get their hands on they used to show the various states at which Hitori goes through in her mind. They never forget they are making a piece of animation, do whatever you want, doesn't have to be super serious. I do think a lot of that is aided due to Aki Hamaji's work on the source material and then expertly adapting it to animation by CloverWorks.
I could go on and on about this thing I watched on a whim, stopped after episode 9 for months because it felt like a good ending right then, but the last 3 episodes really sold me on the entire thing. I could talk at length about how despite her being a drunk Kikuri being an incredibly good-willed person to drive people or heck how the characters are just reasonable towards each other I wish more people would be.
It's just good.
I usually write too much about anime, or really stuff I watch as much as I should or used to but, trying to change that.
