Tomorrow I'm driving back out to my small hometown for the weekend to participate in a little game jam with my friends and just fuckin around. The problem is that its put on by some real "I make over 100k a year in tech out of this small town so I'm obviously very important" types of guys. When looking into them, one is a complete mystery lady and the other 2 owns the same vague buzzword tech company (nothing to do with games) but both branched out and started separate terrible mobile game studios where the entirety of the work is outsourced to poor countries with a bunch of tax avoiding tricks in between. None of the games are even available anymore, that's how much of shovelware they are.
These same dudes also are the judges and they made a "business pitch" part of your final score. They also won't give you the prize money unless you open a business account and have a marketing plan. This is for a game jam with maybe 20 people joining, some of which are literal highschoolers, being run out of a tech bro, wework style shared "coding space". The game jam doesn't have a theme or any kind of limitations so anyone could've just made a game beforehand and turned it in.
I say all this because it tees up very nicely with an email I received today giving us a heads up on where the jam will be, some basic FAQs and this little number
Also, new for this year and not shared publicly, each team will be given a one-month subscription to ChatGPT Pro and recommended prompts to aid in game design. The idea is that this account could become your team's account, separate from any personal accounts you have, so your team can reference the chat history without sharing their own personal accounts. However, if you already have something like this setup or simply do not want the account provided by us, please let me know so that we can save the cash for more food and drink
