90% of my media are pirated. i want to say i'm broke, but i'm sure my family could probably afford them. keyword being "family" because i don't wanna spend my parent's money. so every time i end up really enjoying a piece of media, i'll put them in a list to legally buy them in the future.
and doubly so for Nintendo games because they're console games. to legally play their games, you need to buy an underpowered, outdated computer that can only play a specific library of games and nothing else. even if i already have hardware perfectly capable of much more. they're forcing us to contribute to e-waste for their petty vendor lock-in. but it's not like i would boycott consoles for that cause i'm not a pcmasterrace user.
But what happened to Yuzu made me uncomfortable with financially supporting them. Nintendo is a giant corporation that can trample on us all they want, yet will never face any consequences, because of the masses that enable that behavior because of personal convenience and apathy. i just don't want to be part of that - but at least i'm not actively helping them.
i genuinely think consoles be optional - just look at what steam is doing.
