i can't believe i found out llama3 is out from mark zuck's whatsapp. this is the one time i decided to look at the wechat-wannabe updates tab.
-
i know facebook has a really good track record with open source but i feels weird to hear zuck saying how much they love open source. i'm also not convinced at all.
- there's a license agreement, so i'm not sure if that really count as open source. but it is practically open source because no one cares about the rules in the ai world.
-
the elephant in the room: putting LLMs in whatsapp is concerning.
- the whole point of whatsapp is the end-to-end encryption because no one trusts facebook. adding a feature that 100% requires facebook to be able to fully access your messages feels weird. luckily i don't think they're doing this yet.
- putting LLMs in a search engine at least makes sense. putting LLMs in an app search bar is just wrong. i assume they're being forced to add LLMs to whatsapp against their will so they just chose a random place.
- i think they're letting you chat with llama3 like you're using whatsapp as a LLM frontend? it feels wrong for sure. but definietly better than the search bar llm.
