I usually don't care about the whole "ignorant foreigners talking about your culture" thing (in fact, most Malaysians actually love it, since we love validation). but the way they talk about durian just pisses me off.
I mean, it's not their fault if they think it smells bad, tastes bad, etc. but do they really have to go "ewww do people actually eat this 🤢" "sMellEst fruit in the world"?
also, I find the comparison between Durian and Stinky Tofu interesting, cause Stinky Tofu is actually meant to stink.
I've probably talked about Stinky Tofu in a similarly insensitive way as a kid too.
