I may longpost about it someday but the short post is that I recently said in a server that Genshin Impact is one of the most generous gachas out there and someone replied "I don't understand, Genshin is one of the least generous gachas, it's like they actively hate their players."
Which, if you are trapped in the gacha headspace of "I must collect every character I like" makes sense because, in that context, rolling for characters is the primary gameplay. Genshin is indeed pretty stingy with primos and roll opportunities compared to others.
But if you aren't hooked on the need to draw specific characters, Genshin throws a lot of guaranteed characters at you, and in terms of gameplay comps with only guaranteed characters are viable at almost every level (Spiral Abyss would be the exception), and it's pretty hard to avoid randomly getting a decent or better comp from the 5 stars you will draw over time.
And Genshin gives you a lot of stuff to do. You can get hundreds of hours of gameplay without paying a cent.
