My security system has zwave support, but the app isn't flexible enough to do something as straightforward as turning an outlet on or off based on the time of day. I learned this last night messing around in preparation for Christmas lights.
So I went and got home assistant and installed it on windows to poke around with and ordered a zwave USB receiver.
Now, I have a Linux box that functions as a server. It runs Plex, Kodi, several Twitter bots, @comedy-bang-bang-no-context, sabnzbd, open ssh, nginx, apache2, flask, and anything else under the sun you can think of. It's current major task is I'm running about 15 seasons of the Simpsons through ffmpeg.
Well, this machine is really starting to show it's age since it's on Linux mint 19. I really need to upgrade the os but this thing is such a mess (I'm not using conda or docker or anything because 2019 Mico had alot of hubris) and the upgrader would blast the fuck out of alot of my setup so Im planning to eventually rebuild the whole thing with fresh hardware so that I can refer to weird shit I did on a separate monitor as I build the new one out.
Also uh I should at least use conda. Docker might be overkill BUT I understand why I would want it so I'm thinking about it.
