I tried to type escape :wq in a normal text editor to save and exit.
It didn't work, because i'm not in Vim

We all do what we can ♫
So we can do just one more thing ♫
We can all be free ♫
Maybe not in words ♫
Maybe not with a look ♫
But with your mind ♫

I finally quit using vi last year because the brain damage it was giving me was legit making it hard for me to work in a normal ide or text editor
I literally cannot do this at work, since we run terminal-only production servers and I often have to vim my way into config files to update regexes and stuff.
I guess I'm lucky, our servers all have emacs installed as well
relatable, it used to happen to me quite often. then i stopped using vim keybind plugins in my IDEs and my brain got used to the constant switching of editor types, i think (i still use vim but only standalone, for regular text editing etc)
Yessss the good brain
Additional brainworm you can acquire: if you also happen to use modern-ish linuxes, tmux has a vim keybindings mode. That's right, you can use visual select mode to copy shit around inside your shell
