Getting internet for the first time when I was like 14 or 15, VGCats forum was my introduction to the world of horrible internet communities
on one hand, it was my first time interacting with other people being openly queer, which was awesome as a weird confused child in a hyper-conservative midwest upbringing!
on the other hand! wow! that was a PvP enabled zone!
the best part is i have no idea which iteration of the forum you might've shown up for, if it was phpBB that was a distinctly different set of problems & bad posters than the vBulletin era
I honestly don't remember! It might have been vBulletin? It was whichever one that the webcomic author got mad and deleted after everyone kept dunking on his comic nonstop
It was like 2003? 2004? I was present for it but not for that long of it
