I actually very loudly quit my last job. I spent the better part of 2020 & 2021 reminding my boss every fucking chance that I could get that I support 7 different applications without ANY backup, and then when I asked if we could offload some of that work or fucking hire some additional team members, I was instead given something new.
My situation was sort of unique, normally you shouldn't let anyone find out you're good at your job. But I was a 28 year old non-traditional college student trying to get a co-op position and after a year due to people leaving I was the only one who really understood the data mart I was on the team for, so I managed to swindle my way into Full-Time while at county college. Stuck that out for 4 more years through NJIT and a 18 more months beyond graduation. Towards the end I was constantly getting moved between teams and given some of the worst projects to support at the company. Eventually I saw that this wasn't going to stop and had to start thinking about an exit plan.
In September of 2021 I started looking for a new job, I wanted to move out of new jersey anyway, I had enough saved for a down payment on a house, and knew that I had to act fast while people were still trying to flee cities from Covid paranoia. So I started looking in and around Philly, found something, nailed the interview, and got a job offer in early December, and made 2021 end with the end of my IT career in the world of Property and Casualty Insurance.
From what I've heard, my old job is hemorrhaging folks that were Company Lifers for 15+ years.
