Gextra Life, an Extra Life stream event with me, @ChipCheezum, @Voidburger and my wife Alaina; is about to happen for the 4th time. (Tune in and donate at gextra.life). The first event's schedule in 2016 was simple, play Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko to completion in one 24-hour span. But later years needed a little creativity.
Every game in the 2017 lineup was played as an animal. Some were other mascot platformers like Croc or Ty the Tasmanian Tiger. But we also had Tekken (all human characters banned), Jaws Unleashed, and Cyberswine. The 2018 stream was about seeing the world through Gex's eyes, where everything is one great media dimension: 24 hours of tie-in games. The X-Files FMV game, the inscrutable SeaQuest game for the NES, a Spice Girls... thing? It's certainly extant.
But this year, for twelve hours on November the 12th, we're returning to the source. Chip has scheduled blocks of games, and some not-games, to fit each of the six worlds of 1995's Gex. We're following the structure of starting spooky, then doing cartoons, and so on until ending in the mysterious Planet X. Until there's an official Three's Company visual novel, it's the closest we can get to Gex's natural habitat.
So come on by! We're again raising funds for Hurley Children's Hospital in Flint, MI. And probably adding on to the domestic lore of Gex, Bubsy, their adopted child Aero the Acrobat, their biological Gextuplets, and the rest of the gang. But not "The Gang", that's a separate bit of stream lore. We have fun.
