I thought windmilling (in a metal music context) was when you have long hair and headbang in such a way that your hair well, windmills.

sounded more like hardcore to me? but i know very little about that scene, im more folk punk and emo. idk, windmilling and crowdkilling in general has always seemed hella dorky to me, and not really in the lovable way. but that’s just me.

hmm maybe the genre lines have blurred so much since ive stopped going to shows (lmao its been like over 15 years) this would have been considered heavily metal-leaning metalcore Back In My Day (lol) and would have had an actual mosh pit and the windmillers would have been forcefully relegated to a corner so they didnt kick anyone having fun

i'm 18, i have been to very few shows, i'm honestly just talking out of my ass. maybe it is metal, like i said, not my scene. i just hear that and think more hardcore than metal, but maybe my understanding of metal is skewed by the prevalence of heavy metal and death metal and its various subgenres now.

not to split hairs, but this is less metal and more hardcore, particularly something along the lines of the east coast / beatdown variant. Those are the kinda crowds where you do this really aggressive fist swinging in the crowds. Not a fan!
