A thought I'm having today, with twitter having problems, is that it completely sucks that twitter takes so long to fall apart.
I've been on twitter for way too long, and I've basically written it off somewhere around October. I've stopped posting there, but couldn't quite stop going there because not everybody I like moved elsewhere. So I've been watching it slowly getting worse and worse while waiting for people to move to other platforms.
Meanwhile this week another social space of mine was gone within an hour. Having my hackerspace burn down has been traumatic, but it was also very final the moment the first pictures of the fire dropped in our discord. Nothing could be saved, there was no slow decline. Poof and 8 years of history is gone.
And frankly, that weirdly feels better. There is no going back and the only way is forward. A lot of the issues with the old space have suddenly disappeared and we can focus on a new space.
It gives a clarity that I'm missing from the whole twitter situation.
