I haven't watched Eureka Seven, but it sounds good :O!... oh lol, i've listened to the first OP song a lot, some playlist i listen to must have that in there.

Some very disparate aughts recs:

  • Dennou Coil: if you've watched Orbital Children, this is from the same director! but I like Dennou Coil better since I feel the balance of its focus is more geared towards the characters than the bigger tech ideas (though those are also certainly very present). I kinda wish kids around me had been talking about this anime when i was a kid, it feels like that sort of anime, but maybe the muted colors played against its appeal to children there.

  • Baccano!: Mafia wars, serial killers, non-chronological storytelling, immortals and a couple of comedic relief goofs to ease that tension, it's lots of fun! i love its absolutely bonkers pacing, though that can be a turn off for some people.

  • Hachimitsu to Clover (Honey and Clover): from the same mangaka as Sangatsu no Lion. A coming of age (college aged) romance about artists and their stories. To me it honestly feels like watching a drama or soap opera in anime form (but also has funny anime absurdities that feel very of that time). It also feels very nostalgic.

  • Sakigake!! Cromartie Koukou (Chromartie Highschool): It's a comedy anime and... I feel like the opening tells you more or less all you need to know xP. The episodes are also only 12~mins long so it's nice if you don't have that much time to spend at once.

  • Michiko to Hatchin: the adventures of convict Michiko and the best anime kid Hatchin throughout the brazil-like country of Diamandra (it's also cool that the ost was actually by a brazilian musician!). The director of this also directed and helped create Yuuri!!! on ICE (which i haven't watched but i'm gonna guess is a very different anime lol, but still).

Hey! Thank you so much for the recommendations! I've seen Baccano and Mitchiko to Hatching and love both! And I've been meaning to watch Cromartie ever since I first heard about it when listening to AWO way back in my freshman year of high school haha! I'll definitely be sure to check these out! Seems like a super strong list. I also highly recommend Eureka Seven if giant robots are your thing!
