After discussing how I wanted to expand my pretty paltry selection of jewelry and accessories my endlessly thoughtful and giving partner gifted me a watch 🩷

It was the perfect kind of gift that I never would have bought for myself but effortlessly clicks right into my life.

I never really considered a watch for myself before. I've held the opinion for the longest time that traditional watches are all too often over designed, overly serious, and overly ornamented baubles that don't really fit my aesthetic. I don't mean to yuck anyone's yum, there's no objectivity in presentation but I'm a fairly specific person with my own tastes.

The watch I received is the Nordgreen Native, and its design is a testament to how well my partner knows me.

It's minimalist but not without character. It finds inspiration in more organic and gentle shapes, a relief from the Cupertino influenced designs that lean far more industrial and take up the most space in that genre.

It's thin and comfortable with a curvature that starts at the base of the watch sitting on your wrist to the tip of the slightly domed sapphire crystal.

The watch face itself is lavender (currently my favorite color, and complimentary to most of what I wear) and has thin but legible hour and minute hands that terminate with gently rounded tips.

The hour markers are ever presently clear while the minute markers are only visible in certain lighting and angles and I really like that touch. It results in a watch that feels like it will tell you the time without suggesting you stress over it.

It was gifted with a stylistically versatile stainless steel band that matches the looks and materials of the case and a fairly plush feeling white leather band that makes the watch weightlessly disappear on my wrist, perfect for dressier occasions. It uses a quick release system which means I'll have infinite options for different straps and I won't need to fuss too much over switching them out.

Unfortunately the Native has gotten me a little interested in watches more generally. I don't have any interest or intention to seek out a Seiko, but the Mr. Jones "A Perfectly Useless Afternoon" (thanks to @xeecee for pointing it out!) is too cute and goofy for me not to eyeball!
