that was a good guess! it took 8 years. and it looks like shit. feelin' bad about this one. might as well post the failed projects along with the successes right?
part of my problem is not the size, which i made to fit the quilting hoop it's framed in (23" or 58cm diameter), but that i really drastically underestimated the amount of embroidery floss i would need. which the stores never had in stock. also my traced markings kept rubbing off and i couldn't take it with me when i travel for work in the summer. i'd finally get more floss and work on it a little more and then run out again, each time i pick it back up having to struggle to remember all the tiny artistic decisions i made on the fly and then forgot about in the intervening months. so the work itself is inconsistent, imo the number one thing that makes my embroidery look bad and amateur.
the ecliptic i've already redone so many times and it looks even worse framed up than i though it would lol. i might have to take the stitches out entirely to save this so i don't try to throw it out every time i walk past. look at it. it's got anxiety.
anyway it was inspired by this old Rand McNally star map i found and blew up to fit the hoop. i liked the style of it even if it seems to be missing important features. i'm not exactly pointing the JWST with coordinates from an embroidery. i also slightly regret not using glow-in-the-dark thread, but that would've been even harder for me to source and it's probably for the best.
