i treated myself to a new art tool, this brass sketching pencil. this is a special day because i historically only use things i can steal from offices acquire used or free. i like the short size and the weight, and how it intuitively gets me to hold my pencil differently and use my arm more broadly (i never have tried drawing like this before and i should probably loosen up more. it's hard to get over the "paper is a scarce resource" style of drawing i have imprinted in me). it even comes with a built-in sharpener for the retractable lead! i want to take it with me for field work this summer. it was a splurge but not so expensive that i'll cry if i lose it (i really hope i don't lose it).
