do not understand why we still make shoes with laces when we invented velcro years ago
when a lace breaks, buy a new pair of laces
when velcro gunks up, buy a new pair of shoes
yeah was gonna comment this.
velcro's long-term durability and replacement capability pale in comparison to shoelaces. one doesn't need a needle and thread to replace shoelaces!
imo the real comparison is that we have latches. we have toggles. we have so many ways of variable-tightness easy fastening that don't require proficiency in knot-typing and bending over and touching toes for a prolonged period!
i've always dreamed of having shoes that just snap closed like rollerblades...
I've got a pair of Salomon waterproof trail shoes which use their clever-but-proprietary Quicklace system. Replacing the laces when they break is something of a process (here's their how-to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9NjP-rrJHw), but the trade-off is that the shoes are easy-on / easy-off and can be easily snugged to whatever fit you need.
(And in 3 years, I haven't needed to replace the laces; it may be the soles wear out before the laces do.)
i've had laces wear out on shoes before
my current shoes, the soles are wearing out and the velcro is as good as it's ever been
My current years-old leather shoes are slip-on and use only elastic on the sides, clearly demonstrating that elastic is the true superior option in shoe technology
Wyo, I started using slip-on shoes forever ago and I never turned back!
thank you so much for this amazing resource on shoe lace tying. works out rather nicely, that i see this now, as i will be wearing some dress shoes(?) soon
🤭 no problem! I actually use the site as reference for study since the galleries have lots of cool shoe designs. Hope your dress shoes look sharp ^-^
Someone told a shoe manufacturer that velcro was a rip-off, while laces were knot, a problem, and that slight miscommunication influenced everything after that.
