still managed to lose the demographic of “extremely online trans girls” indicates they really fucked up. if the it/its girlthing with a name like 0872, a timeline of empty spaces retweets, and a likes tab full of women in USSR military uniforms is dunking on your game that features two female communist robots that could kill you by sitting on your face, you’ve failed to a historic degree.

Posting in case someone is willing to explain what the issue with the game is. All we really have known about Atomic Heart is that it has a cool art direction and is pretty.
It's just not very well written, nor is it very fun to play. The English VAing is also dogshit terrible(Apparently, the Russian VAing is fine, though).
Gameplay and level designwise, it is basically a watered down Bioshock 1, which is in and of itself a watered down System Shock 2. Most of the gameplay systems are taken from Bioshock with minimal alteration, and not much thought given on how to improve on a sixteen year old game.
Oh. That's disappointing... We were genuinely looking forward to playing the game in some nebulous future. We found Bioshock gameplay to be very annoying.

On the political side it was supposedly funded by the propaganda wing of the Russian military, so there was some boycotting happening there too.
cmon, it's a game made by a bunch of Russian dudes, it would be a miracle if they had a single positive thought about someone LGBTQ+ across their entire lives
clearly where the devs fucked up is that they didn't make them scary enough. male gaze-y sex bots? meh. sex bots who have agency (and that agency is protagonist murder)? that's much better.
