I was super excited for 'kid raised by uni mech engineers and researchers on a ship in space' as a starting point.
I'd been hearing a steadily growing chorus of "I checked out the new Gundam show, it's kinda gay" these last couple days... any kinda gay anime called "The Witch from Mercury" was always going to at least get my attention, but catching up on Anifem this morning and reading "Utena in mechsuits" was my hard tipping point, I'm so excited to start watching this 
i want to live a Sophie Bell-Orozco anime. but yeah watching Witch from Mercury is going to give me Ideas.
