there are exactly three types of television show:
- gets worse over time, and everybody argues about why it stopped being good
- gets better over time, and everybody argues about whether it's okay to skip ahead
- inexplicably stays the exact level of quality the whole time, and everybody argues about both of those first two things because they need to have something to talk about
