Anything above basic respect is earned, not taken for granted. And I understand the impulse to be mean-spirited back. Sometimes, I endorse it.
This needs perhaps a note for when one is being mean-spirited about perceived categories, so long that it is a way to vent lived experience and not applying an undue generalization for spite's sake. But I’m cool with making space for the justifiably angry.
