today it is sunday. it has still not been sunny for far too long. but that is okay, because we are busily making MUSIC, and right now i am coming over to COHOST to share today's SONG VIDEO with some WORDS about the song wow! i love this song!
<-- the previous day's song | the next day's song -->
today's song is: Rubescent Isle of Reincarnation, for the SNES's soundchip SPC700
easily my favorite of the Super Islands bunch, this time i took my idea of "sample things on the SNES that weren't from the SNES" to the extreme, and sampled bits of my own music, ranging from phrase-length to bar-length or so. i was able to fit five heavily downsampled clips into my allotted 64KB, and proceeded to play around with the audio in different registers and arrange them in (imo) fun and interesting ways. to supplement how neutered the high frequencies were from the downsampling, i made good use of the SNES's noise generation capabilities too. this is really where my style gets super self-indulgent but i looove it. ambient glitch music all day.
the songs sampled are: secret forest for ewe+eye [0:09-0:31], I'll Never Bid You Farewell [3:06-3:12], The Last Few Months of Our Lives [3:23-3:35], ashflower [0:01-0:02], and Dusk Falls on Magical Girl Dream Island [4:15-4:18]. i basically just pulled phrases that i thought would be interesting to hear in compressed form and at different pitch registers. and i think they were! \o/
this is the only one of the bunch that doesn't have microtonal elements, because i felt like handling these samples in weird ways was already enough - but as you will soon see... that may have changed... π
