On DVD the predominant format was Dolby Digital, because DTS was an optional format in terms of player support and DD was much more efficient in terms of bitrate.
With lossless audio on Blu-ray the predominant format is DTS-HD Master Audio and my understanding is this is either because it's easier/cheaper to license the encoder than Dolby TrueHD or because the encoder software is annoying to run.
But now with spacial audio formats we're bouncing back to Dolby with their whole Dolby Atmos thing because I guess it's better marketed and idk how much hardware support there is for DTS-X?
