To the subject of foreign interference I only want you to ask yourself one question and think very hard before you answer:

What makes you think your own government hasn't been doing the same thing to you, to a far greater extent, for far longer? And why do you fear it more when it's foreign rather than domestic?

I feel like a lot of people are aware of this โ€” to the point that it's either dulled down into background noise or passed off as an outright joke.

Fed infiltrators? They're a running joke in a lot of the left. NSA surveillance? All those "the federal agent watching me" memes suggest that it's widely known. Interference and ratfucking by corporations entirely aligned with state interests? People know, kinda care, but don't do much.

Domestic government interference is just a day that ends in "y", for many people. It's whatever. People already have given up on that front.

But we need to stop giving up.

in reply to @kstarling's post:

Whenever people make a big noise about foreign interference the overwhelming message is that all political differences are being exploited by the evil other and that we need to realize we're all the same and unite against this common enemy in the spirit of patriotism.

It fills me with disgust.
