I wanted a piece in the style of a sumo gyΕji (judge/referee) dolled up to be an enrobed avatar of 'judgement', I love war fan wielding, I love these styles. . . .
nobody is an active yokozuna we live in a generation of near-greatness all crabs in a bucket battering each others bodies and spirits back down into the submission of mediocrity and the grind. haven't watched the last two tournaments at all. cat pretty
i am being slightly over-pessimistic for dramatic effect but at this point while i respect the 'noble battered warrior's spirit' it's hard not to see terunofuji's current arc as more tragic than helpful, like just a solid reminder that "by the attritative nature of the sport it is impossible to be both dominant and consistent".
we were so spoiled that hakuho was so great and also so fucking funny and cool. all the backstage stuff about his stable being pried apart is an additional damper on me being super invested rn either
That's very fair. The recent drama has not been adding any enjoyment for sure.
I think the "Yokozuna really pushing to see how much longer they can eek it out" story is one often repeated. But it's a lot different seeing it unfold in real time vs reading about it years after the fact.
But yeah. Sumo is very, good and bad in equal parts.
