the eye doctor's office called today. i answer the phone. "hello, is this miss april lunarii?" i answer yes. i can never keep track of which places have my actual name in their systems so i'm pleasantly surprised. but then. the receptionist reminds me about my appointment on monday. "for [deadname]". i do somewhere between two and three takes but don't say anything. she says she'll see us on monday and to have a nice day.
i have apparently become my own mother.

My guess is that their EMR system doesn't have a field for preferred name (which is always weird, tons of Williams go by Bill) so a friendly receptionist ät some point probably put your name in a phone comment field which prompts a little message to pop up when someone clicks on your phone number (usually this is used for like "this number belongs to the patients case manager" or "the patients mother handles her healthcare" ect) so yeah if the message wasn't clear it probably read like the number and name belongs to your mother who handles your care
