satoshi is just a cringe little minecraft boy with 30 minutes of actual screen time but his ghost is so integral to almost every major character's development, his circumstances directly or indirectly affect the incidents of every single arc and he plays a major role in multiple characters' syndrome delusions. its so. so so so so so so so good.

i watched the deen anime close to when it aired, read through the manga as it was getting scanlated and then like a decade later or however long it had been, i saw that gou was coming out and thought "oh, are we getting an actual good higurashi anime?" and my thoughts were not very positive LOL. ive read all of umineko too so im apparently supposed to enjoy the crossover stuff but it just made me groan.

i could probably go off about them for hours but i really dont want to spend that energy on something i feel so little about. theres honestly nothing about them thats enjoyable to me, not even the "nicer animation" because from the very first episode it was filled with weird satoko crotch shots and shit. i love satoko and i love the idea of satoko character exploration but nothing about gousotsu works for me, the setup does nothing for me and it feels flimsy and barely held together.

gousotsu is honestly just exhausting for me and not helped by the fact that during the time gou was airing i was surrounded by people who continuously smugly asserted, to my face who had been starting to feel skeptical since the end of the first arc, that gou is definitely setting up for really smart writing thats going to show everyone who has concerns or criticisms that theyre actually really stupid 😓
