this is a dramatization with removed angle brackets so that it does not parse but the gist of it is:

div style="put-css: here;" /div

cohost supports markdown, and its escape character is the backslash (\). so by writing \< you write <. and you can escape a \ with a \, so writing \\ becomes \ and \\\< becomes \< >:3

so yeah, write <div style="css-property: css-value">stuff here</div>

also, another trick that @HeySora mentioned: &gt; and &lt; work too: &gt;w&lt; becomes >w<. other HTML entities work too, and you can escape them by writing \&lt;.

(also, you should escape >s, but it works without it too. escaping <s is mandatory)

aaaaaaaaaa  i SWEAR i tried this multiple times, and gave up because it never worked...
i guess i hadn't learned how markdown html blocks worked yet (i.e. if a line starts with an html tag, markdown syntax is disabled until the next paragraph break)

<div>
1 \< 2  ❌
</div>

1 \< 2  ✅
